For those who are not aware, the Rise Projects commenced an action in the Land and Environment Court (LEC) against Kempsey Council in July 2024. There is another hearing commencing at The Rise Development site on Monday 7th April at 10:00am and 7 community members have been invited to give evidence. This is another step in our David and Goliath story. We are confident in our approach and need your assistance.
If you can get there, we need an hour of your time, starting at 9:45am. The objective is to show support for the speakers and demonstrate to the LEC that the community does not want nine 5/6 storey buildings in that location. We also have time now to get our message out there, so talk to your friends, neighbours and families. This also gives us some extra time to create some more signs to bring on the day. Maybe someone has capacity to have a sign workshop afternoon prior? If so reach out and we will support this where we can.
We have received legal advice and will have a legal representative onsite giving evidence on community's behalf on the day. This takes some dollars, so if you are inclined to contribute, please click on the link below. Thank you to those who have already. We are putting your generous contributions to use.
We need to keep this peaceful and respectful to the court much like last time so if you can get there earlier to help get organised please let us know.
If you have out your hand up to speak, can you please let us know so we can coordinate our coverage of the issue.
Looking for ways to get involved with Voices of South West Rocks Community Inc? We are always looking for volunteers to help us with our initiatives and programs. Whether you're interested in organizing events, conducting research, or helping with outreach, we have opportunities for you. Join us today and make a difference!
To celebrate International Wild Koala Day join our peaceful vigil at the Rise site for info sharing, and be inspired to take action to protect the iconic koala.
We will hear from the SWR Figtree Descendants Aboriginal Corporation to hear about the Yarri (koala in Dunghutti) and the local engagement with schools.
We are close to finalising our next steps and this seems a great way to end such a beautiful and powerful vigil we as a community have been engaged with.
If you have capacity and feel you want to continue the vigil, by all means please do! We are shifting a gear to get the next bit done.
So make a sign to celebrate koalas and protect them, bring a friend a meet us down there. This is a kid friendly event. We encourage you to bring a rug to sit beside the footpath and not obstruct it.
BYO thermos to share a cuppa and a cupcake.

What would Australia look like by 2030 if we simply listened to the needs of its people?
Regenerating Australia is a 17-minute short film based on a four-month interview process with a diverse group of Australians who shared their hopes and dreams for the country's future. It is a new story for our nation: a story of empowerment. A story of
solutions.
A story of regeneration.
Set on New Year's Eve of December 2029, a news anchor is ending the nightly bulletin with a look back at the decade 'that could be’. A decade that saw Australia transition to a fairer, cleaner, more community focused economy. The film is a construction of hypothetical news reports and press conferences featuring real journalists, politicians, business leaders and citizens - featuring Kerry O’Brien, Sandra Sully, Tim Flannery, Larissa Behrendt, David Pocock and other well-known voices.
The visual effects team has brought to life the greener, more vibrant cities and communities that our interviewees are asking for. We see what a high-speed rail network connecting regional areas and cities would look like and what large-scale wind, solar, battery and hydrogen projects would do for hundreds of thousands of employees. They show the impacts of landscapes coming to life when regenerative agriculture and reforestation programs combine with Indigenous knowledge and fire ecology to bring more people back onto the land.
This ‘mocked-up’ look back at this critical decade is full of hope and aspiration, mapping out a pathway for change that can
lead us to a more sustainable future. But it is a muscular hope, as each news event is grounded in the research and modelling of several organisations that have been examining and advocating for such a transistion.
Join us for a night of engaged conversation with a Panel of experts and unite watching this powerful short.
